How would they reach your loved ones?
November 17, 2008
I know this isn't a very pleasant subject to talk about, however it is important to me... and I need to share it with YOU.
Imagine you are involved in a car accident and unable to speak.
How would emergency personnel know how to quickly reach your loved ones?
The Ohio BMV has a fantastic (and VERY simple) process to follow to enable emergency folks to reach those close to you for notification and rescue purposes.
Are you ready?
1. Get your Ohio Drivers License or State ID.
2. Visit the Ohio BMV's website
3. Go to "Online Services" in the left hand column.
4. Choose "Next of Kin Emergency Contact Enrollment" to enter up to two people you would like to be notified if you are injured and unable to speak.
If you'd like to double up on your security of knowing that you will be taken care of in such a situation, also consider these options:- Program your emergency contact's phone number into your cell phone and save it as "ICE" (instead of that person's actual name). ICE stands for "In Case of Emergency".
- Order FREE T.I.K.E. stickers. Toddler Info Kept for Emergency stickers are bright neon green and are to be placed on the bottom or back of a child safety seat to assist emergency personnel.
Whatever action you choose, hopefully you will rest a bit easier, knowing that information that is needed by emergency personnel, should a situation ever arise, is readily available to them!
